I complee agreatly.
The part where this argument completely and totally falls apart is that religion is, at the end of the day, 100% a choice. your skin color and sexual orientation are not.
Criticizing or even “ridiculing” somebody for their “religious orientation” has NONE of the weight of homophobia, racism or sexism.
For one thing, Religion, and in particular Christianity, holds a monopoly on western culture. There is no religious persecution for christians in a country that hasn’t had a president who hasn’t at least CLAIMED to be a christian in over 50 years. There is no religious persecution for christians when nobody questions the building of a christian church when a Mosque can be voted on, and vetoed, by the community at large.
Accepting your decision to be religious has nothing to do with my open-mindedness. How do you rationalize defending your “religious orientation” when that orientation directly aligns you with bigots, misogynists, homophobes and racists? I make all quarters for you to be allowed to believe what you want to believe, but that doesn’t mean i have to respect it.
Zing.
